GRIS is a minimalist platformer video game that brings a sense of calmness and wonder as you explore its mysterious world. During its 4 hours of gameplay, I was fully immersed by the scale of this world, and the beautiful relics of an old world while playing as its feathery main character, Gris. GRIS is the sort of game you’d play to unwind thanks to its serene atmosphere. There’s no rush to complete missions, no danger, frustration or even death. In GRIS, everything is calm.Gris is a game created by Nomada, a Spanish indie developer. It is available on all platforms, and it is pretty enjoyable for people of all ages.
Story

The story in this game follows our main character Gris, a young girl that awakens from the palm of a crumbling statue of a woman. When she attempts to sing, the statue’s hands begin to crumble and give way for a big fall with Gris.
Playing through this story, Gris will have to keep moving forward and collect constellations with special lights that unlock new abilities for her. These constellations are also important in restoring the light and color back to Gris’ world. There are four main environments in the game to explore. These include an underwater cavern, a beautiful forest, a desert riddled with windmills and a magical realm with buildings made of light. In the course of this story, Gris eventually regains her ability to sing, however, she encounters a monstrous creature that tries to attack her. While escaping, Gris is able to sing and bring a statue back to life. The statue also begins singing and it saves Gris from an impending doom. By the end of this adventure, you will certainly be satisfied with the restoration of color and light to the world.

In GRIS, the challenges you’ll face are puzzles, platforming sequences and some optional challenges to earn some collectibles and achievements. Even though there isn’t a threat to be killed in the game, the challenge is still quite formidable. Some of the puzzles will require some deep thought to solve. Regardless, everything in the world of GRIS still feels like it is put in the right place.
Animation and Design
Exploring this world, you’ll be met with a magical journey that is simply illuminating and therapeutic for players. Games like Journey and Abzu are some easier comparisons to what you’ll get from GRIS. Here, the world minimalistic and beautiful work of digital art. Not many games are able to pull off camera-work as well as GRIS. In this game, you’ll be left fully mesmerized by the end of your adventure.It often feels special, like the game was made specifically for an individual player. This is definitely the sort of game that is best enjoyed during a calm Sunday afternoon. The beautiful and unforgettable world is a great way to start the week.
